Back in June I was commissioned to photograph Liverpool's North Docks as part of Open Eye Gallery's Afftecting Change exhibition. I spent a week walking around the ten streets area of the docks, it was an intensive project and I loved the hectic days and nights. But I couldn't help wondering how the series of images would have turned out if I'd approached it at a slower pace. So I've decided I do something in my own back yard and start exploring the County Road area of Walton with exactly that, a more immersive approach.
These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago in July on a Saturday afternoon at around 2:30pm. It was startling how many shops are closed. Most of the shops in these photos are empty, some were closed but are operating businesses, it's obvious they just don't get the footfall to make it worth their while to open on a Saturday.
My first reaction was there may not be a project here at at all. What is there to photograph? But I'm aiming to make this a series and make regular posts on the road.
